Antonio de la Torre’s singing career started with voice lessons at age 9. This Australian schoolboy showed enormous talent and potential, and within a year was winning local and national eisteddfods around Australia including the Australian National Eisteddfod.
At age 10, Antonio auditioned and won his first professional stage role in Opera Australia’s 2020 production of ‘Carmen’ under the baton of Christian Badea. He was also an invited soloist for the Llewellyn Choir and Sinfonia’s stellar performance of Faure’s ‘Requiem’ in this same year.
In the next two years, Antonio won three international singing competitions, in the USA, Singapore and Germany, including the Fall 2020 American Protégé International Music Talent Competition. He also recorded a stunning version of Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria’, and this licensed recording was picked up by the international crime drama ‘Hidden Assets’. It featured in Episode 3 of Season 1.
After a series of booked performances around Canberra were cancelled due to the COVID lockdowns, Antonio decided to record his first album of classical masterpieces, ‘Primero’, showcasing Antonio’s divine tone, superb breath control and projection, glorious soprano range and flawless diction. Antonio also sings in four different languages on the album – Italian, Latin, German and Welsh.
This exquisite album brought together many of Canberra’s finest musicians under the musical directorship of Leonard Weiss, and was recorded at the beautiful Wesley Centre in Canberra, Australia. Antonio is now 13 years old and, in addition to his achievements as a world-class boy soprano, loves to play piano, violin and drums.
His recordings are now available on all major streaming services and Antonio has a dedicated and growing fan base who have subscribed to his YouTube channel and follow his Facebook page. He would love to see more young people discover the joy of classical music, and hopes that his voice might help others around his age fall in love with classical music’s passion, beauty, elegance and artistry.
